A brochure that highlights the behavioral patterns of people who exhibit abusive behavior as well as people who have experienced the effects thereof.
The Russian Nesting Doll was chosen as imagery and analogy, representing both the individual’s complex layers (much like hard shells) that guard the innermost thoughts and feelings, as well as the concept of patterns of abuse that can be passed down generationally.
The background is textured with layering of a found brain image transparency. This was chosen as a complimentary conceptual element because, scientifically, abuse alters the brain in structural form and chemical function.
The brochure is small in size and muted in color to ease the processing of a difficult subject matter. This piece is meant to be helpful, not intrusive.
The goal of this introspective process is to get to the heart of the issue—deconstruct the layers of past wounds; notice patterns in feelings and actions—to ultimately make decisions that will break cycles of abuse.
