The Baltimore Neighborhoods Indicators Alliance (BNIA) is an open source data gathering organization whose mission is to strengthen Baltimore neighborhoods by providing meaningful, accurate, and open data at the community level.

After looking around the BNIA website, I realized that there weren’t resources for children—a vital part to every community.

With this activity book, I aimed to support the BNIA mission by introducing data concepts, increasing data literacy, and giving children the creative agency to explore information about their city and selves.

Process

After downloading the data from the BNIA website, I cleaned and uploaded it to Tableau, where I made mockups of what I wanted the visualizations to look like. From there, I downloaded the charts to refine in Illustrator. Final layout was done in InDesign, and the coloring was done in Procreate.

This workbook is free to print! If you use it, send me an email with photos.
